From Game Math Designer to Head of Math in Just Six Weeks: Meet Alice Lesser, the Rising Star at Quickspin
Alice Lesser‘s fast-track promotion from Game Math Designer to Head of Math at Quickspin in just six weeks is a remarkable achievement. Lesser, who has a PhD in combinatorics, spent several years in other industries before joining the gaming industry. She started as a Game Math Designer at Quickspin in June last year, and in six weeks, she became the Head of Math.
The team at Quickspin is thrilled to have Alice at the helm of the math department and cannot wait to see what she and her team will come up with for future games. Let’s take a closer look at Alice’s journey from a math lecturer to a gaming geek and her experience working in the gaming industry.
A Former Math Lecturer Turned Gaming Geek
Alice’s love for science fiction and mathematics has been evident throughout her career. In 2006, she even slept in Robert Heinlein’s bed, but he wasn’t in it. As a former math lecturer, she has incredible chalkboard skills and can speak about any topic for exactly 45 minutes. In her spare time, Alice loves playing board games, reading science fiction books, singing, cooking elaborate meals, and hiking.
Alice’s Gaming Industry Experience
Alice’s gaming industry experience began when she learned slot math at NetEnt six years ago. She then spent two years at Bwin doing sports betting. Alice says that slot math is by far the most fun job she has ever had.
Alice’s Impressive Pace at Quickspin
Quickspin’s fast-paced environment suited Alice’s pace, as she was promoted to Head of Math after just six weeks. Alice’s first task was to recruit two more math designers. She’s happy to have Grzegorz Sordyl and Agustina Lopez in her team, joining Berke Zorlu. Together, the team has over 25 years of experience in creating slot math and game mechanics.
The Best Part of Being Head of Math
Alice’s team at Quickspin is the best part of her job. She loves working with an awesome, talented, and dedicated team. Alice is still involved in designing games and spends a lot of time collaborating with artists and producers. Alice’s day is also filled with playing slot games.
What’s Next for Alice and Quickspin?
Alice is excited to see what the team can build together in the coming years. With new people joining and new ways of working together, Quickspin is poised to produce some really cool games. As COVID-19 restrictions lift in Sweden, Alice is looking forward to more in-person meetings with her team.
Final Thoughts
Travis Grabau, VP of Game Studio at Quickspin, is thrilled to have Alice leading the math team. He says, “We know a superstar when we see one, so promoting her after only a few weeks was a no-brainer. With her background as a math lecturer and her many years in the gaming industry, Alice is extremely skilled and talented, in addition to being a great leader. We’re very lucky to have her in the Quickspin family!”
